The beginning is important to notice, since it is always fascinating to see how things started out.

Louis Comfort Tiffany seems to have waited until the death of his father, Charles Lewis Tiffany, in 1902, before he started to design and produce jewelry. On the date of March 22, in 1902, Louis C. Tiffany was allowed to become a member of the Tiffany & Co managing board and later became vice-president and art director within the company. This change enabled Lewis C. Tiffany to make executive decisions, outside the reach of his father, and he began focusing on his creative designs and on making beautiful jewelry.

In 1902, Tiffany started working with designs of jewelry at Tiffany Furnaces, and his intention was to show his pieces and collection at the Exposition in St. Louis. This was the best event for him to come out and show his many skills and versatility when it came to designing jewelry. All the pieces Tiffany made in this interval, before the exposition, was stamped with the marks “Louis C. Tiffany” and “Artist”. However, there are no documents able to offer further information on Louis C.

Tiffany’s exploits before 1907, but the pieces of jewelry exposed at the St. Louis Exposition offer some welcome information and can fill in some of the gaps. Many of the items included in Tiffany’s collection in this interval were of flower inspirations and had patterns hinting at flowers. Also, nature was a recurring motif in the pieces designed by Tiffany in this period, in the beginning, as well as some Etruscan themes. Skipping forward to this day, the thought remains, choose Tiffany’s so that you can always be on top!
